DIY: Wheat-Free Blueberry And Banana Biscuits

8 Apr

I am always  inventing up new recipes for Logan, as we go through so many dog biscuits in the house. It’s sad that so many store bought treats are filled with . So many bought treats   gluten based flour or preservatives, that make many dogs itchy and uncomfortable.

In this recipe, I use rice flour. I’ve put together this handy list of what flours are good to substitute.

You can easily adapt other treat recipes by substituting a grain-free flour. Here are some that are safe for your dog :

  1. Rice flour – this is easy to get hold of and the one I generally use
  2. Garbanzo bean (chickpea)
  3. Quinoa
  4. Tapioca
  5. Oats – use slow cooked oats (NOT INSTANT)
  6. Amaranth
  7. Potato flour
  8. Millet flour

These flours often don’t hold things together as well as wheat – but your four legged friend won’t mind.  Using an egg will help to bind the recipe together. You may also need to experiment a little with the amount of flour you use. I find that about 3/4 cup of rice flour equals about 1 cup of wheat. So add your ingredients slowly to get the right texture on your dough.

Just experiment, and have fun making snacks for your pet!

Now to the fun part: the recipe!

Wheat-Free Blueberry And Banana Biscuits

These healthy homemade dog treats are made with blueberry and banana.

Packed with vitamins, these biscuits will give your dog the healthy snack he needs.

Ingredients

1 banana
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter.
1  1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup fresh chopped parsley

Directions

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees.

  1. Using a food processor (or blender), mix the blueberries and banana until it’s smooth.
  2. In medium sized bowl, mix 1 cup of oats well with the peanut butter. Slowly add & mix the berry/banana mixture.
  3. Slowly stir in the milk and parsley, and the remainder of the oats.
  4. Using a teaspoon (or a small melon baller) place little balls of dough on a non-stick tray.
  5. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, this recipe makes around 30 dog treats.

This easy treat is a great treat as it holds together well.

I’m confused. You said you used rice flour for this recipe but it’s not listed in the ingredients or instructions. Do you add I’m 3/4 cup of rice flour to this mix?
