Adoptable Dog Of The Week: Meet Avery, the Siberian Husky

10 Apr

Meet Avery!

Siberian Husky: An adoptable dog in Toronto, ON

Medium • Adult • Female
—————————–

Hi! I’m Avery! These kind people at T.E.A.M. Dog Rescue rescued me and my friend, Brandy, from a Montreal Kill Shelter where we ended up through no fault of our own! I am smaller in size and weight than my sister but we look very similar and people always stop our foster momma to remark on how beautiful we are!

I am a 3 year old, spayed, Siberian Husky and I am a sweet, submissive girl who loves people! I grew up outside so I am still learning what it is like inside with a family and I love it!!!!  I am a quick learner and am almost fully housebroken! I am good in the house otherwise and will not chew anything as I really like being inside where it is warm and cozy! If I am left alone, I prefer not to be crated but you can leave me a room and I will be a good girl.

I am GREAT with dogs but truth be told, cats and other small animals  should definitely stay away from me as I am a husky after all and I think they could be tasty! I have boundless energy and would do very well in an active home where I can get lots of exercise!  I also need a patient owner who will learn to understand me and teach me how to walk well on leash!

I love my humans and the kind folks at T.E.A.M. Dog Rescue say that I would be just fine being adopted on my own and I agree!
Are you the one for me?

Adoptable Dog Of The Week: Meet Aden!

3 Apr

ADEN is AVAILABLE for ADOPTION! Please share Aden far and wide, he has been at the rescue the longest, and he needs a forever home! Aden can be a handful, but he is sweet and super-intelligent. He’s 2 years old. He needs a firm experienced owner who will set boundaries and provide him with the stimulation and activity he needs to thrive. A home without younger children is being sought for this stunning boy. Aden is with Doberman Rescue Ontario.

Aden is a stunning 2 year old male cropped & docked doberman.  He has been at the rescue the longest, and needs to be placed in a forever home.  He is here through no fault of his own.  He is an active, and extremely intelligent boy who needs guidance from an experienced owner who can embrace his spirit and give him the consistency he needs to thrive.  He is good with other dogs when introduced slowly and carefully, but would do best as an only dog, or possibly with a female.  A home without young children is essential for this boy.  He needs daily physical activity and love, and with the right owner he will be magnificent!

About the breed: (borrowed from – http://www.dogster.com)

More than anything, these are people-oriented dogs, craving attention, positive reinforcement and quality time with the family. When properly trained and socialized, they can be sweet and easygoing with children.

Highly intelligent, Dobermans have a range of skills that include search & rescue, agility, and therapy work. When given a task and lots of mental stimulation, Doberman Pinschers will stay obedient and happy.

Dobermans, while loving to their families, can be very protective and suspicious of strangers. If they think their handler is being threatened, they will do anything to keep them out of harm’s way.

Don’t be afraid of your Doberman. They need a firm owner, and everyone in the house should know how to discipline them (in a very positive way, of course). They can get pushy if they have their way for too long. If you’re not prepared to work with your Doberman, you might try a more manageable breed.

Dobermans will be fine in an apartment as long as they get enough exercise and attention. They are probably not the best pets to have around small children.

A healthy Doberman can live as long as 12 years. Common health problems include heart disease, hip dysplasia and bloat. Protect them from cold weather climates—their short coats make them sensitive to the chill.

ZOOOOOM! Meet Renegade, the greyhound rescue

21 Mar

We are so lucky to have Renegade as part of The Hydrant crew!

I always love rescues.

One of my clients, recently adopted Renegade, a beautiful 2 year old fawn greyhound. He’s staying with us for a few days.

He’s so beautiful (and a bit taller than Logan!) and makes me want a greyhound even more.
He’s affectionate, and such a happy boy. His tail whips around like crazy!

PS. Renegade is adopted through GRA Adoption – check them out online here.

Adoptable Dog Of The Week: Meet Jazz!

30 Jan

Doberman up for adoption!

When “Jazz” was rescued she was emaciated… you could count every rib. She has filled out nicely and was recently spayed.
She is likely best in a home with no kids or small dogs. She has been fostered with one of our employees ; Wendy. She is a darling loyal girl, but she will be required to go to an adult home with no other pets. She can get a little protective to whom she builds trust with.

If you are interested in viewing her, please call Gateway at 519-653-1003

Adoptable Dog Of The Week – Meet Wicket!

23 Jan

Wicket

Hound: An adoptable dog in Toronto, ON

Large • Young • Male

So you know everyone comes with a history, because of mine, I am learning to trust people again.  In my foster home there has been lots of love to give and get.  There are two kids who have shown me unconditional love, and they even have a bunch of cats which like to rub up against me.  Their fur is so soft and the fluffy tails tickle my nose.  I get along with all the dogs in my foster home too.  We all share toys and snuggles and like to wrestle.

I LOVE my treats and I am amazingly gentle with taking them.  My 4 yr. old human foster sister has taught me that I don’t even need to jump anymore for them; if I sit nicely, give a little high five I am rewarded.  My favourite are apple flavoured treats, yum yum!

So now about my personality … Okay so I am a big goof ball and I put on a great show.  I especially love when you talk to me in that super annoying high pitch voice.  Okay I am shamelessly admitting that when my foster family calls me “Wickey Wickey” in that silly voice, it makes me so excited, I gallop all around them in circles.  This brings me to my running skills … apparently I run a little funny, more like a hop and skip but that doesn’t mean I am not fast.  I have completely perfected my style that I often cross the finish line before any of my friends.  When I run I feel like flash lightening!!

Okay another confession I prefer to have my food given on a plate … not sure why but bowls kind of scare me.  I am not food possessive at all in fact I am cool if you want to feed me by hand.

I am a bit of a nervous nelly, if I knew how to chew my nails I would.  Mostly because I have NO idea what a lot of sounds are and I have no experience within a family.  I am learning lots everyday including to trust those who love me.  Loud noises scare me so I love it when you just talk nicely to me, or gently redirect me instead.   I am getting so much better on my leash, I don’t necessarily pull but it is the noises within the neighbourhood that throw me off and make me confused about what direction we were walking in.  I am working on this daily.

Shhhh don’t tell anyone but I think my human foster brother and I kind of look alike, as we both have ginger hair.  Everyone always has as a soft spot for a red heads don’t they?  Well I have lots of soft spots and I am a red head … go figure!

Can You Find Momo?

19 Jan

Find Momo

Andrew Knapp, a 30-year-old visual artist from Sudbury, Ontario and his white border collie named Momo have created a real-life game of “Where’s Waldo.” Instead of Waldo, it’s Momo.  He had Momo pose in front of a variety of landscapes where the black and white dog blended in. Knapp says he didn’t even start out setting the scenes up. The two would go on treks and Momo would simply disappear into the landscape. Since then the photos have gained popularity and now Knapp is working on putting at least 100 of them into a book. Lets see if you can find Momo in the following photos….

Meet Bernie – Adoptable French Bulldog in Toronto

9 Jan

Bernie came from the Brampton Animal Shelter in Brampton, Ontario. He was brought to the shelter by a concerned neighbor, who often saw the energetic little dog running around loose in the street and knew it was only a matter of time before he would be hit by a car.

The owners were notified numerous times by the shelter to reclaim their dog, but they never responded. Bernie remained at the shelter for a month, during which time he was treated for an ear infection, seborrhea on his chest and belly, and sores on his feet. He was eventually spotted by a volunteer for Pugalug Pug Rescue from Toronto, who was at the shelter to pick up a foster Pug. A French Bulldog owner herself, she immediately spotted the little dog, and contacted the French Bulldog Last Chance Rescue.

Bernie is a rescue placement!
Bernie is a French Bulldog/Boston Terrier mix!
Date posted: 01/07/2013
Date last updated: 01/07/2013
Location: Beramsville, Ontario, Canada

Age: 3 years old
Gender: Neutered Male
Weight: 26 lbs.
Color: Brindle with a distinctive white collar.

Health Concerns: He has allergies, he was on Prednisone until the snow came, and he is on Prescription Z/D for food allergies. It seems to be the only food that doesn’t give him diarrhea and itchy feet (including raw).

His tear ducts pop in and out (cherry eye). They are in most of the time, but when he is playing they sometimes pop out and a quick rub alongside his eye pops them back in.

Does Bernie like kids? He loves all people, big and small. He is very high energy and plays rough though, so we would recommend no children under 12 years.
Does Bernie like cats? We don’t know if he has ever been with cats. He is prey driven, so we would not recommend cats.
Does Bernie like other dogs? He is great with the resident smaller dogs. He is nervous of large dogs. He doesn’t trust them and has an “attack before being attacked” attitude.

Personality and Activity Level: Bernie has two speeds, either full out or out cold. He has the high energy of a Boston Terrier. You can throw a ball for hours and he would never get tired. When you are watching T.V. he will be on the couch fast asleep beside you.

What are the dog’s favorite toys or things to do? He LOVES his bones and balls. As long as he is with you he is happy. He hates to be left alone. He is a great retriever and will play fetch all day.

Housebroken? Yes, never had an accident in the house.
Crate trained? He has been in one, but hates it and has major anxiety about it. He poops in the crate he is so upset.
Has Bernie had any training? Yes, his foster home has been working with him and he knows many commands.

Triggers for aggression: Bernie is food aggressive. He gets tied to the kitchen door at meal time and he is okay with it. When he is done he knows to sit and wait for everyone else to finish. When all the bowls are lifted he comes off his leash and all is well. But, if he isn’t on the leash he will try to get into everyone’s bowl to eat theirs and fights ensue.

Shipping: No
Cost to Acquire: 500.00

View is online photo gallery – he’s cute as a button!

What you read here is based on Bernie’s observed behavior while in his current foster home

Bernie needs to be part of an active household, with people who are active and willing to take him everywhere with them. He needs someone who is willing to treat his allergies and pay attention to his diet and veterinary needs. He would be great with a single person, a couple, or a family with older kids, as long as they are people who aren’t going to always crate him and who will let him be where they are in the house – including the bed! He LOVES bed time and knows when bed time is and will be up on the bed before his foster parents even get there.

Someone who is home all day would be optimal, but he could also do well with someone who works, but can come home at lunch or have a pet sitter/dog walker at midday. Bernie cannot tolerate spending time in a crate or languishing all day with nothing to do. He could even manage going to work with his new owner, as long as he was properly exercised first.

Bernie can be placed with other medium size dogs, that can handle rough play. Bernie is all or nothing kind of guy. An older dog or handicapped dog would be completely overwhelmed by Bernie.

Bernie’s best scenario is a fenced yard due to his previous experience of wandering the streets. His activity level is much too high to be cooped up in a small apartment with no yard.

Bernie would be a wonderful little dog for a family that could enjoy and appreciate his level of activity. His foster mom says of Bernie

“He is a great dog and learns very quickly. He is so smart he picks things up himself. For instance he now knows when he is lying in my spot on the couch he knows to move over one cushion when he sees me come into the room; and I never taught him that. I have never told him to move; I would normally sit somewhere else if he was in my spot.

It took me two weeks to teach him to sit, down, shake, kiss, and fetch. Most dogs would take closer to a month to master all the commands. That is why I would love a home that wants to do agility with him because it would be a great outlet for his high energy as well.”

If you would like to adopt Bernie, please contact us at fblcrescue@gmail.com, and we’ll send you an application!

Bernie is posted for adoption on Last Chance French Bulldog Rescue.

Meet Clara! This Southern Belle Needs Your Help

27 Sep

Meet Clara! This sweet 1.5 year old Southern Belle was found as a stray in Terrell Georgia, an area that has been greatly affected by the recession. She has been waiting along time in a shelter, and her time is almost up.

This is where we need your help.
Clara can’t be brought to Ontario by T.E.A.M Dog Rescue unless we have a FOSTER HOME lined up for her.  Your job would be simple: all you need to do i provide her with love until she finds her forever home.

She’s extremely laid back, and quiet. She enjoys being around other dogs and is very people friendly.
She hasn’t been tested with cats.
She’s a clean little lady, as her kennel is never a mess! **Sounds like she’s fully house trained!

Despite her situation, she’s a happy go lucky dog who just needs a chance.

T.E.A.M Dog Rescue have spoken and are in close contact with shelter staff and the vet office to confirm all information provided above.

T.E.A.M. Dog Rescue THE DETAILS
Clara would be adopted out through T.E.A.M Dog Rescue. She will be coming up 100% vetted (spayed, updated with vaccines, dewormed, HW tested, etc). She will be coming with a health certificate!

T.E.A.M Dog Rescue would be 100% responsible for driving her (if she ever needed to go to the vet); as well when there is someone interested in viewing her T.E.A.M Dog Rescue would be responsible for picking her up and meeting that family.

Reassured, if the foster situation didn’t work out then T.E.A.M Dog Rescue would find a foster back up.

We need to find her a Foster placement by SATURDAY, September 29th, 2012. CAN YOU HELP?

Please contact  ashley_hyslop@hotmail.com or 647 458 0220. She will send you a foster application to begin the process.

T.E.A.M. Dog Resue Of The Week: Meet UTAH!

21 Sep

ABOUT

Utah is a beautiful 108 pound, 5 year old Doberman/Mix who is 100% all heart.  He is a big suck and is extremely good with kids and other dogs. He hasn’t been tested with cats.

Once upon a time, Utah was a loved member of a family. The family bought him from a farm at 8 weeks however as the years went by he was slowly more and more neglected as the family decided to have children and their schedules got busy (an all too typical excuse). Utah craved attention however he got none! Utah needed more than they could provide; he wanted to live his life by going to to dog parks and at the very least be taken on walks. Those routines became nonexistent for poor the poor boy.

Utah didn’t pass any judgment however and has remained a wonderful dog that deserves a wonderful forever home. Because of his size and activity level he would be best with an active family or couple who enjoy long walks/hikes and dog park outings.

His foster mommy says that after their daily walks, and that he loves to snuggle by her feet or play the role of a lapdog. (sounds like the Doberman in him!!)

Utah is a gentle giant who is good on and off leash. He is well mannered inside, outside and on leash. He is completely house broken; is fine being left alone; comes with complete vet records (beginning when he was 8 weeks).

Utah is extremely healthy, and is up to date with all shots, neutered and tested negative for Heart worm.

He’s  loved by anyone who meets him and really deserves a happy ending/

If you are interested in meeting this lovely boy please contact T.E.A.M Dog Rescue volunteer,  Ashley Hyslop at 647 458 0220.

** He is currently in Foster home in the Queen West neighborhood in downtown Toronto *
